After being born and raised in Cortez, CO, Kelly McCabe obtained a bachelor's degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He then got his law degree from Seattle University in 1979. In April of 1980, Kelly returned to Cortez and started the law office of Kelly R. McCabe, P.C. as a sole practitioner in a two-room office upstairs in the Wilson Building.
