Our Work
Report
ISLP mobilizes pro bono legal support to advance economic development that is more just, inclusive, sustainable, and accountable.
Our clients include governments, civil society organizations, and social enterprises.
Our work is client-driven and based on the attorney-client model: volunteer legal experts provide advice and guidance, while clients direct development decisions and outcomes.
ISLP's assistance is meant to complement and support - not replace - local legal expertise.
We are able to provide support in common and civil law jurisdictions, including those where languages other than English are spoken.
Accountability & Transparency
Report
ISLP works with civil society organizations and government clients to promote transparency and accountability in public and private institutions with the aim of preventing and mitigating the corrosive economic, political, social, and human impacts of corruption.
ISLP's 20-year track record, recognized expertise, and strategic partnerships with reputable organizations - both international and local - allow us a unique platform and convening power to bring together diverse stakeholders across different sectors.
Community-Inclusive Development
Report
ISLP aims to support effective civil society participation in development decisions and to enhance local advocacy strategies to promote sound environmental and social standards in large-scale development projects.
ISLP also aims to facilitate knowledge exchange between civil society and other stakeholders (public and private) so that the latter gain a better understanding of community needs and social and environmental impact, and are incentivized to address them.
Our civil society engagement work draws upon our volunteers' wide range of sector expertise, including in energy, infrastructure, extractives, environment, biodiversity, land use management, agriculture, forestry, and transportation.
Innovative Finance & Social Enterprises
Report
ISLP provides legal support to scaling social enterprises and investment initiatives that are focused on development issues such as climate solutions, public health, and poverty reduction in the Global South.
We support small- and medium-sized enterprises and nascent investment initiatives on a range of matters including general corporate and governance issues as well as discrete transactional matters, including the design and structuring of investment vehicles.
We also partner with local legal bar associations for knowledge sharing and capacity building, as part of ISLP's goal of fostering vibrant local ecosystems that enable social innovation and entrepreneurship to thrive.
Investment & Trade
Report
ISLP supports governments to incentivize, secure, structure, and mobilize sustainable investment and trade.
We provide legal counsel to governments in their efforts to enforce sound and transparent legal and regulatory frameworks that can incentivize investment and trade, including public-private partnerships.
