Kathy Rowell, Attorney At Law
I am not currently taking new cases, but call (423) 710-9195 to schedule paid legal information sessions if you need help with a current family law or juvenile law matter or if you wish to schedule a mediation. Due to the pandemic, courts have slowed down tremendously and although more in-person hearings are occuring, masks are required. Courts are also using video methods such as zoom and webex for less complicated hearings.

Please keep your families safe and healthy during this time. My office remains open to help you through consultations and mediations by telephone or zoom. Experience you can trust. You can depend on me for a prompt response. I have been a trial lawyer for 23 years and once you become my client, I will fight hard to get the results you want. I have an active practice in Hamilton County, TN, but can take cases in other counties if needed.

As a Child Welfare Law Specialist, I receive regular court appointments as a Guardian ad LItem in Hamilton County Circuit, Chancery and Juvenile Courts.
Services
Child custody law can involved many different parties, including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or non-relatives that are interested in the welfare of a child.
Anyone can file petitions for custody of children in Juvenile Court if they believe there is abuse and neglect of some kind going on.
I can help grandparents and other legal custodians try to keep legal custody of children when parents re-enter the picture to try to get custody back and I can also help parents who have lost custody due to hard times to try to establish regular visitation schedules that may lead to getting custody back.
4 Court cases are very stressful, not to mention extremely expensive.
Court mostly focuses on the past; the great thing about mediation is that it focuses on what you can live with in the future.
Also, in mediation, you have more control over the final outcome.
In the immortal words of the Rolling Stones, "You can't always get what you want."
In a good mediation, all parties compromise to some extent.
As a family law attorney and Guardian ad Litem, I specialize in mediating cases involving post-divorce, custody, paternity, or DCS investigations.
If you are facing a family law issue, but cannot afford to pay a traditional retainer fee, a basic legal consultsmay be the answer.
If you have to represent yourself in a matter (what the TN legal community calls pro se), you need to be as prepared as possible.
During a consultations, I can answer questions, explain the court process and prepare you for the unknown.
Instead of spending days or hours trying to do all the research on your own, I can give you information in less than 45 minutes.
Even if you already have an attorney, but are frustrated and want a second opinion, I am here to help.
I was born in Alabama, and have a BA and MA in History.
I went to law school at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, downtown near the medical school and with a view of Lake Michigan from the campus.
I have worked for Legal Aid in Miami, FL, operated a solo business and family law practice in Florida and worked for the Department of Children and Families ("DCF") in Palm Beach County.
I also met my husband in West Palm Beach.
We moved to Chattanooga, TN in 2005, where I worked for DCS as an assistant general counsel.
