Chapter 7
Report
Chapter 7 bankruptcy can discharge most or all of your unsecured debt.
Examples of dischargeable unsecured debts are credit cards, medical bills, deficiency from repossessions and foreclosures, and personal loans not secured by any collateral (aka unsecured loans).
Chapter 7 does not deal with secured debts, which are debts that are secured by collateral like a car or house.
See Chapter 13 Bankruptcy.
If you have a wage garnishment, once your Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition is filed, "automatic stay" is in effect, which prevents creditors from further garnishing your wages except for priority debts like child support and alimony.

Chapter 13
Report
The payment is based on your disposable income and the type of debts you have.
In most cases, you only pay a fraction of your debt.
In the FREE consultation, if Chapter 13 is a viable option, I will estimate your monthly payment under the Chapter 13 plan.
Chapter 13 Bankruptcy can stop foreclosure and repossession by restructuring your debts so that you can afford to keep your house or car and also by reducing your debt: (1) eliminating your 2nd and 3rd mortgages or home equity line of credit; (2) eliminating a portion or all of your credit cards, unsecured loans, medical bills; (3) cramming down your car loan to the retail value of your car; (4) eliminating unsecured, nonpriority portion of certain tax debt; etc.

Difference between Chapter 7 & Chapter 13
Report
Chapter 13 Bankruptcy: repayment plan to creditors because of at least one of the following reasons: your income is too high; you have a lot of assets that you want to keep; your last bankruptcy was filed too recently but you need to file another bankruptcy case because of overwhelming debts.
The repayment plan is between 3 to 5 years and most of the time you are paying back only a fraction of your debt.
Sometimes as low as 1% depending on the case.
The unsecured, dischargeable debt that are not required to be paid back will be eliminated.
